Deep Sky   -   Project of the stratosphere Manned Rocket Glider(Canceled in 2013)

 

Project Outline:
Manned launch vehicle, 30000m altitude suborbital flight and return to the earth with aircraft like.

 

Vehicle Specification:

∙Dry carbon CFRP monocoque craft body,aluminum alloy  booster airframe.     ∙Craft weight is 5200kgw(including 3 crews with pressured suit & thruster fuel).   

∙30000mm total long including 16000mm booster and 14000mm craft.∙1500mm craft body & booster diameter.   

∙10000mm span and 6000mm height of 4 stable fins on the lap of the booster bottom,  6800mm craft wing span.    ∙The length of nose is 4500mm.
∙Craft has double delta wing with V tail wing(30deg.) and variable camber with fowler flap for improving lift coefficient at landing.   

∙Craft has 3 tail wings at launching, lower one is separated at closed before landing by explosive bolt.
∙Throw away LES(with recovery parachute) is mounted in the craft.    ∙After booster separation, LES is performed separation from craft by 3 sliding cartridges with motors settled inside craft.
∙Then, jointed rear landing gear and craft drogue parachute unit is slided with throw away mounted LES and is separated at end of craft cylinder for removing from LES.
∙Top around to lower (except bottom)part of booster airframe wall must have extra strong strength to normal strength to hold  explosion down at event of the combustion chamber explosion at launching.

At least, that strongly needed a hard cover to shield crews from explosion.    ∙Booster separation mechanism removes booster from craft by explosive bolt after combustion.   

∙Booster unit has 3 retro rockets at middle lap and drogue parachute at the top for after separation.   ∙Both booster and LES has mounted GPS for recovery.   

∙Nonpressurized cabin with 3 pressurized suited crews.    ∙Crews carries main and reserve emergency parachutes(square) on their back.    ∙Crews be set in the emagency escape seats on the cabin.
∙Emergency escape seat has totally 6 thrusters for attitude control each 2 in pitching, rolling, yawing for event at 30000m emergency escape.   

∙Removing seat, releasing a parachute is performed at least altitude 10000m.
·Craft has totally 6 thrusters for craft attitude control at 30000m height.    ∙Wide canopy which a detonation cord is buried in(crashed wide canopy aids more safety escape than narrow canopy).
∙Cabin needs to reserve at least 4500mm including built equipments and boarding space.    ∙Hybrid rocket propulsion with INS(Inertial Navigation System).   

∙Planned sub-orbital flight maximum altitude is 30000m.

 

Flight Summary:

1. Outline
    DeepSky Sub-Orbital flight, vehicle is composed with a booster rocket & stratosphere flight craft, consisted with lift off, craft separation, LES separation, turnaround,re-entry, descend, approach, landing .

    Launches at Black Rock; Nevada. Altitude is 1191m.
2. Flight Sequence    
    Launching Max velocity=2.265(M) at altitude 15000m.  Max alititude is 30000m.  The booster and the craft is separated at imminent highest alititude.

    The craft strats re-entry at an altitude of 30000m and moves to an   aerodynamic flight at an altitude of 10000m.
    The craft starts to descend altitude at 10000m.  The craft is keep attack angle 40(deg) attitude controlled with thruster until alititude 20000m. 

    The craft descends while decreasing an attack angle to 10(deg) while altitude 10000m. 
3.Apporch
    Velocity of approach=59.5m/s=214.2km/h,  Aspect Ratio=1.58,  Attach Angle of Apporch=13.56(deg),  Descent Rate(Normal)=CL/ CD=0.62/0.18=3.44, Descent Rate(With Flap)=14.55, 

    Sinking Velocity of Apporch(Normal)=59.5 x 1/3.44=17.3m/sSinking Velocity of apporch(With Flap)=59.5 x 1/14.44=4.1m/s
